Sligo company Seatrails is offering visitors to Sligo a very special WB inspired trail for Yeats2015.
On this short guided walk with marine archaeologist Auriel Robinson you will visit pretty Rosses Point, a small, historic, maritime village just 10 minutes drive from Sligo town. Here you will soak up stunning scenery and breathe in fresh Atlantic air. This is the place where Yeats and his siblings used to spend their summers. Jack has painted many beautiful scenes from here.
Ships would have passed in through the narrow entrance into Sligo Harbour and some waited for tug boats or lighter boats to guide them in to the Sligo quays to relieve them of their cargoes.
There are stories of smuggling, shipwrecks, hauntings and old sea captains form here and you will be shown some quirky sites along the way! This is a very relaxing walk where views onto Coney and Oyster Island will open up to you. You will also be greeted by the ’Metalman’ who never told a lie!
