Commissioned by the Institute of Technology Sligo, The Model Sligo and Hazelwood Demesne Ltd in collaboration with Sligo County Council, submissions were invited for conceptual interpretations of WB Yeats’ poem The Lake Isle of Innisfree. The Architectural Competition was open to national and international practitioners of architecture and art, and proposed an architectural intervention for the island which mediates between Yeats’ poetic vision and contemporary architectural ideas.
The winning design, Square Moon by shindesignworks, an architecture team based in London and Korea, will be unveiled on Friday June 12th; a brief realisation of Yeats’ dream and a special gift for his 150th birthday. It will remain on the island until August.
