Harp Festival of Moons (May – The Bright Moon)
Slish Wood, Sligo
Monday May 4th 2015
The 5th full moon of the month falls on Monday, May 4th, and will be celebrated in Slish Wood Sligo, in the evening, with a harp recital by Michael Rooney, one of Ireland’s foremost composers and harpers. The event is free, but for insurance purposes, numbers are limited, and those wishing to participate should pick up a ticket from Lilly and Lolly’s Cafe in the Yeats Building in Sligo, or can download one through Eventbrite.
Ticket holders are asked to meet in Sligo, (details on the tickets) where they will be transported by bus to the wood: This is to avoid an over-presence of cars and parking problems in the small area we will visit, and in compliance with insurance requirements. The event is free, but we will ask you for a 6 euro contribution for the bus.
A short introduction by a member of Coillte, who are supporting the event, followed by some time near the lake and harp music is the programme fort he evening. Each event to date has had guests and surprises…maybe this one too. Back in Sligo town, Lilly and Lolly’s Cafe have light refreshments available in the outside space, hopefully under a full yellow moon as the Garavogue glides past underneath.
In the event of really bad weather, we will visit the woods, and have the recital in the Yeats Building.
This is the first of the Yeats 150: Harp Festival of Moons events to be held in Sligo, and the first outdoor one.
The event is part of the Harp Festival of Moons, a year long festival of live harp recitals that will take place on every full moon in 2015. As a blue moon year with 13 full moons instead of 12, there will be 13 events in total. The locations for performances have been selected because of their association with the harp and/or Yeats’ work and life.
For Yeats2015 Harp Festival of Moons will host events every month. See the full year’s listing here.
