A SERIES OF COLLABORATIVE CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITIONS
CELEBRATING IRELAND’S PRESENCE IN CHINA
Irish Festival, Beijing & Shanghai March 2015
Sponsored by Culture Ireland, Dubin City Council, Embassy of Ireland
Supported by Inter Art Center and the Dong Yue Art Museum, Shanghai Grand Theatre
IRISH WAVE 2015 POETIC VISION has at its heart a conversation between artforms & cultures: a discourse between visual art & poetry and a conversation between artists & curators in Ireland and China.
With the poetry of W.B. Yeats as fulcrum for the 3 exhibitions – ‘A Meditation in a Time of War’, ‘Golden Fleece’ and ‘Small World’, the curators have selected artworks born of an encounter with the poetry and an exploration of its meaning.
‘Golden Fleece’ is sponsored by Dublin City Council as part of the Beijing Dublin Twinning Agreement and to honour Dublin as UNESCO City of Literature.
The exhibitions, which encompass a range of media, 2D, 3D, installation, photographic & performance are curated by Fion Gunn, Niamh Cunningham & Brendan Jamison, a team which has had years of experience of delivering ambitious projects in China.
The artists, some established and some emerging, demonstrate an ability to work internationally and cross-culturally: this is contemporary art that is both relevant and exciting.
In the 21st century both Ireland and China, so different in scale and so separated by distance, have found many shared experiences both positive and negative, these exhibitions celebrate our coming together.
