This recital will celebrate Yeats’ life and work through music and song. Traditional Irish songs inspired Yeats’writing, most famously in poems such as Down by the Salley Gardens and The Fiddler of Dooney. A selection of Moore’s Melodies will recreate the musical culture during Yeats’ life. These popular, traditional songs were arranged as art songs for voice and piano by composers such as Stanford, Hughes and Britten, using traditional airs in new, creative ways.
