Kiltartan Gregory Cultural Society is hosting a picnic in the Millennium Park at Kiltartan Gregory Museum to celebrate Yeats' birthday on June 13th. Bring your choice of picnic, enjoy a recital by Coole Music Ensemble, poetry reading by local school children, face painting for the younger generation and a Trad session with Gaillimh Theas Comhaltas. As part of celebrations marking the birth of W.B. Yeats 150 years ago, his former home Thoor Ballylee in Gort will open its doors  on Saturday 13 June. W.B. Yeats owned the tower from around 1916 and lived there during the 1920s. The Nobel Prize winner was inspired by the Norman tower in his poetry volumes The Tower (1928) and The Winding Stair (1933). Coole Park, in the early 20th century, was the centre of the Irish Literary Revival. William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge and Sean O' Casey all came to experience its magic. They and many others carved their initials on the Autograph Tree, an old Copper beech still standing in the walled garden today.
