Celebrations for 150th birthday of WB Yeats will continue on the high seas in Sligo this weekend.
A special event will be held as part of Yeats2015 on board the ’Spirit of Oysterhaven’ yacht on Sunday July 19th at 10am at Sligo Port.
Yeats poetry will be performed on board this beautiful 70 Foot classic schooner which will berth at the pontoon over the weekend. Members of public are being invited to attend this free event.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, which runs from August 9th-16th , will also join in the celebrations this weekend with special performances of Irish traditional music on board.
This Tall ship has taken part in many Maritime Festivals and Tall Ship Regatta and will be a pleasant backdrop to Sligo Harbour, Floating Pontoon over the weekend.
It will leave the port on Monday to sail to Galway with a crew of young people, from disadvantaged backgrounds as part of a club initiative.
Chair, Yeats2015 Senator Susan O’ Keeffe says “The celebrations continue in Sligo this weekend for the 150th birthday celebrations of WB Yeats. This is a unique event as it will see Yeats poetry being performed on this spectacular sailing vessel Spirit of Oysterhaven.”
The ‘Spirit of the Oysterhaven’ is operated by Safe Haven Voyages which is a not-for-profit enterprise that promotes integration between communities in Ireland through the sport of sailing.
